Qingcheng
mountain is located in the southwest of Dujiangyan in Sichuan, northwest
part of Chengdu plain, in the Qingcheng mountain-Dujiangyan scenic area.
It is 68 kilometers east of Chengdu, 16 kilometers away from Dujiangyan
urban area. Qingcheng mountain is neighbored with Minshan mountain, facing
the western Sichuan plain. The main peak Laoxiao Peak is of altitude of
1260 kilometers above the sea level. The mountain is with green woods
which is green all year around, the mountains are shoulder by shoulder
as city walls, so it get its name as”Qingcheng mountain”.
Qingcheng mountain is divided into the front mountain and back mountain,
of which the front mountain is the main part of Qingcheng scenic area
with about 15 kilometers. There are many places of interest and the scenery
here is very beautiful. The main spots here are Jianfu Palace, Natural
Picture, Chaoyang Cave, Zushi Palace and Shangqing Palace; The total area
in the back mountain is 100 square kilometers with beautiful water, serene
woods and magnificent mountains. The main spots are Jinbitiancang , Shenmu
Cave,Shanquanwutan, white cloud cave, tianqiaoqijing.
Surrounded by countless peaks and densely covered by
ancient trees whose branches reaching the sky, the mountain was named
"Mt. Qingcheng" (Green Town in Chinese). The mountain includes
two parts-the anterior Mt. Qingcheng and the posterior Mt. Qingcheng.
The anterior mountain is famous for its beautiful scenery and numerous
cultural and historic sites; while the posterior mountain is noted for
its paradisiacal scenery, primitive and brilliant, gorgeous and mysterious.
Many famous modern painters are interested in the serene scenery of Qingcheng
mountain. In about 1940, the modern Chinese paining master Zhang Daqian
took his family to live at Shangqing Palace. His works about Qingcheng
mountain accounts several thousand. Qingcheng mountain is one of the first
series of scenic areas in China, in 1982 , it was listed into the first
national scenic areas. On 8th May, 2007, it was listed as the national
5A scenic area by the national tourism bureau. In November,2000, Qingcheng
mountain and Dujiangyan were listed into World Heritage List by the standard
C(II)(IV)(VI).
The main scenic spots are Shangqing Palace, Jianfu Palace, Zhushi Palace,
Chaoyang Cave,.Laojun cave, Yuecheng Lake. Tianshi Cave, Wudongtian, Zushi
palace, Yuanming Palace, Jianfu palace.
Jianfu Palace
The Jianfu Palace, with extraordinary bearing, stands against the barranca
under the Zhangren Peak. It was built in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), and
repaired for several times in the successive dynasties, now only two halls
and three compounds are preserved.
Natural Picture
The Natural Picture is a building complex made of wood. Lying in the arms
of high mountains and steep cliffs, it presents a lush and primitive view
of forests and pure sky. The neighboring Crane-dwelling Village adds even
more colors to the picture when the white cranes cruise gracefully among
the mountain peaks.
Tianshi Cave
The Tianshi Cave, perching on a cliff with only a small path leading to
its entrance, houses statues of Fuxi, Shennong and Xuanyuan (three legendary
primeval kings of the Han people) on its main altar, made in the Tang
Dynasty. The palace contains wood and stone tablets of past dynasties.
The most famous include the Tang Xuanzong's imperial decree and Yuefei's
handwriting of Zhu Geliang's Chushibiao, etc.
Zushi Palace
The Zushi Palace is also named Zhenwu Palace. It was built in the Tang
Dynasty, with murals of the Eight Immortals and inscriptions left by famous
writers through the dynasties in the main hall
Chaoyang Cave
It is located at the foot of the main peak Laoxiao Peak, the gate of the
cave is facing the east, which is very gracious that it can hold hundreds
of people. It is said that Ningfeng Zhangren once habited here as well
as painting expert Xu Beihong once wrote Couplet here.
Shangqing Palace
The Shangqing Palace situates on the peak at an elevation of 1,600 meters.
The Shangqing Palace was first built in the Jin Dynasty (265-420) and
the extant temple was built during the reign of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty.
Besides a woodcut edition of Dao De Jing, there are two wells in the palace;
one is called Mandarin-duck Well, the other Fairy Magu Pond. It is the
best place to appreciate the three famous scene of Qingcheng Mountain
-- Sunrising, Cloud Sea, and Holy Lights.
